Hullo.

Am currently indulging in Tudor epic-ness and listening to Bob Marley all the same.

Im just so enthralled by the Tudor world. Although it is like 500 years ago, its fascinating to know that nothing much changed really. The men are still whoring and the women are still bitching about each other. lol. people are still contesting over religions and divisions. There are still those who spend their lives cultivating lands that will never be theirs. Breaking backs constructing things that they will never enjoy or own.

I was watching Anne Boleyn’s execution in The Tudors 2 and I cant help but wonder how that must have felt like. I mean, i would rather be beheaded rather than being boiled alive, or erm, impaled or skinned alive (yes, they actually did those. refer to Surviving History on History channel). It just goes to show how much the human body can actually endure.

So, I was at Harris the other day and I was looking through the Historical Fiction selections. Its interesting how there are novels about the Mughal Empires, written by Asian and Western authors, as well as novels about China’s dynasty and emperors. But, i cant seem to find anything on the Malay Sultanate, or any empires of the Archipelago for that matter.

Im sure there are things that can be written about them. I remember reading one of Ibn Battuta’s (this ancient Moroccan traveller) which testifies his amazement at the greatness and opulance of the Melaka Sultanate. In fact, he even wrote accounts of an Amazonian-like princess who fought like a warrior! Though Im not sure if it is historically accurate, i think its fascinating to image it in that light.

Gosh, I love the holidays.

I watched NEW MOON yesterday and it was quite frankly, rather horrible.

Not that i expected much out of the movie, but really. That Bella woman deserves a slap. What is up with the obsession? Okay, so Edward left her but she doesnt have to do all those stupid things just to get him back into her life. And secondly, whats with the whole junkie/comatose look?! She basically sat on a chair for like 3 freaking months, waiting in a seemingly fetal position while her dad worries himself sick. Thirdly, the woman is a shell of a human being! She has no identity of her own! There is really nothing that she does that does not include Cullens. What is up with that!?

And oh god, the script is awful. apparently Bella thinks she is never good enough for that paedophile vamp. AND, Edwards is this obsessive freak who watched Bella SLEEP! and Bella likes it!

This people, is a very unhealthy relationship! What was Meyers thinking when she wrote this book?

Here’s an awesome link that you should read; Bella Swan is a feminist nightmare.

Something from my emotions module;

“Emotions have evolutionary suvival value. Anger and Fear energizes organism to undertake urgent activitity for survival. Satisfaction provides motivation for future growth. Depression is an adaptive emotion. When additional losses or defeats might be incurred, depression facilitates survival by accomodating the organism to lower status until he/she is ready for social engagement. It prevents further loss of status.”

Its all part of the masterplan people.

stranded.

Hello.

So I was on the 912 yesterday when it suddenly broke down. Somehow the driver couldn’t get the engine started again. So, there was like a moment of chaos, people whining and cursing (with no attempt whatsoever to do it discreetly) and complaining.

But eventually all of us got out of the bus and we were like stranded. And then another bus was approaching but guess what? the bus just drove past all of us. lol. i thought it was quite amusing. i felt like one of those people floating on boats after their ferries or ships sink. like waiitng for someone to rescue me. lol.

so again, major cursing all around. but i thought i should make the best out of the situation and ended up walking my way home. I think i’ll find it quite far but yesterday i was in a rather reflective mood so yeah.

and rihanna’s rated r is rocking man. i suppose one of the good things about mugging is that we get to appreciate good music. well, at least i do. i dont know, i always need music whenever i study. it sorts of get me into the zone.

maybe this is what it feels like to get into a trance. lol.

wake me up when 4th december ends!

I believe this is a fantastic series. I managed to catch it on MTV just now and I thought it provided such an interesting take on teen pregnancy. Its far from glamourizing teenage pregnancy (unlike those in the magazines showing teenstar’s latest baby like its a new accessory). Rather, it follows the teenagers throughout the pregnancy, from the time they break the  news to their parents, their friends to the time they start nursing the child.

The episode today was about Maci and Ryan. I felt quite sad for them when Ryan started coming home late, when he refused to take care of the child. But then there were scenes where you can see Ryan holding the child and he looked at the baby with such an intense gaze, you cant help but know there is such thing as paternal instinct.

I’m amazed that community college in the US have childcare services! Isnt that interesting?

I’m not saying that we should start opening childcare centres for teenage parents but I’m just thinking out loud about you know, how much we are trying to shove this issue under the carpet.

I mean, we have a lot of teenage pregnancy cases  now and i dont think the statistics are going to decrease any time soon. Should we think of something aside from judging these teenagers? I mean, i know that you are not supposed to be having sex now and that prevention is better than anything but when it already happened, what are you going to do right?

I was wondering what  I would do if im in their shoes. and honestly, i dont know.

Maybe we have been judging them too much, too harshly? Maybe instead of pretending that this is likely to go away soon, we should address the issue. I mean, even for single parents, it is quite difficult to claim support in Singapore. The policies are way too oriented to suit the idealized nuclear family. But, reality is definitely more complex.
